  • Before You Move

Permanent residents of Canada must carry and present their valid permanent resident (PR) card (otherwise known as the landed immigrant document) or permanent resident travel document when crossing the border into Canada. You may also be required to show your PR card as proof of eligibility for various programs and services in Canada.

Your permanent resident card is extremely important and should be kept in a safe place.

See the Government of Canada website for information on

  • Applying for, renewing or replacing a PR card.
  • Other relevant information about your PR card.
