The Immigration Partnership hosts or co-hosts awards to recognize stakeholders who have made important contributions to the settling and community integration of immigrants and refugees in Waterloo Region. Waterloo Region has always welcomed immigrants and refugees. The Newcomer Landlord Award recognizes landlords that go above and beyond to provide innovative, flexible, caring and affordable housing solutions for recent immigrants and refugees in Waterloo Region. The award was founded in 2016 in response to an outpouring of support for Syrian refugees. The Award is presented as part of Waterloo Region's National Housing Day celebrations in November.

2023 Newcomer Landlord Award

The 2023 Newcomer Landlord Award was proudly presented on November 22 as part of the Region of Waterloo’s National Housing Day Celebration, acknowledging the outstanding contributions of four recipients. Nominated by the community and selected by a committee comprising community partners, the winners were honoured for their impactful role in assisting the newest members of our regional communities in finding a home.

Together with other housing and support partners, they contribute to building a strong sense of community in the Waterloo Region.

2022 Newcomer Landlord Award

The 2022 Newcomer Landlord Award was presented on November 22 as part of the Region of Waterloo’s National Housing Day Celebration to six recipients. Chosen by a selection committee of community partners and landlords, the winners were celebrated for helping the newest members of our regional communities find home.

Honourees included: Lisa Weiler Haskins and Richard Hamming; Heidi Sproul; the Woolwich Community Health Centre; Open Homes KW, Moe Hansrod (KW Property Management); and Chinh Pham, Tho Tran and Tony Pham. Read their amazing stories of generosity here. 

At the ceremony, the Region of Waterloo also recognized the outstanding work of non-Profit and co-op housing providers who play an integral role in the housing system and, alongside other housing and support partners, build community together in Waterloo region. Heartfelt moments were lived during the ceremony that was highlighted by stories of solidarity and resilience.
