There are many professional and trade associations in Canada. Joining one can help you find work and progress your career. Many have voluntary membership. These associations offer good opportunities to meet potential employers.
The benefits to becoming active in professional associations are:
- Interacting with people in your field who can give advice and information on the trends in your field
- Developing contacts who can be your reference and review your resume to make sure it is understandable
- Demonstrating your knowledge by writing articles or presenting at events

Professional immigrant networks
If you arrived in Canada recently, connecting with other professional immigrants may help for your job search and expand your network. Professional immigrant networks (PINs) organize professional networking activities. These groups are formed to help newcomers achieve their goals.
PINs cover many industries including both regulated and non-regulated professions. PINs can also be a good place to find a mentor. They can often can be found within community cultural groups.
