#IamWaterlooRegion showcases the rich diversity of Waterloo Region and the positive contributions of immigrants. It features people who moved here other countries and now strengthen Waterloo Region communities and inspire others to do the same. It included feature profiles, posters displayed online and in public places throughout Waterloo Region, extensive promotion on social media and the in-person engagement of campaign ambassadors.

From June 2016 to May 2017 the journeys of twelve remarkable residents were shared and celebrated. From Syria, Chile, Ecuador, Pakistan, Ghana, India, Kenya, Mexico, China and Jordan, they are now residents and neighbours in Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo and Woolwich. Their everyday contributions touch and enrich Waterloo Region non-profits, community services, environment, arts, culture, business, health, faith, education and much more...

The campaign was celebrated in May 2017 at an Open Conversation on Belonging at the KW Art Gallery. At this intimate event, campaign ambassadors shared the ways in which this campaign further contributed to their own sense of belonging in Waterloo Region:

  • Dr Florence Juma: "An honour to be involved in this campaign, a journey of reflecting on my belonging"
  • Dr Ernest Osei: "To feel belonging you have to help others feel it too"
  • Alam Mohammad: "Communities must go out and also invite others in"
  • Adnan Nafisa: "I now know belonging and have felt belonging through this campaign"
