Standing against hate
Hate and discrimination can affect newcomers and communities in Waterloo Region and beyond. If you experience this, you are not alone. Support is available, and you have rights.
In Canada, the law protects you from discrimination at work, in housing, when accessing services, and in public spaces. Local organizations and services are working to support people and build safer, more inclusive communities.
What you can do
If you experience or witness hate or discrimination, it can help to document what happened, including the date, time, location, and any details or evidence. You may also want to speak with your settlement worker or someone you trust, report the incident to the police if you feel safe doing so, and connect with support networks in your community.
