Immigrant services

Moving to a new country is exciting, but there is a lot to do and learn. Many local organizations offer free support to help newcomers settle into your new community in Canada. Whether you need help with learning English or French, finding a job or housing, registering for school, or making community connections, these organizations are here to support you every step of the way.

What immigrant services can help with

A settlement worker is your first connection to local information and community supports. They can help you identify your priorities and connect you with the right services, such as:

    • Finding housing, health care, schools, and transportation
    • Learning about your rights and responsibilities in Canada
    • Accessing interpretation and translation support
    • Finding a job and career planning
    • Finding English or French language classes
    • Learning about volunteering and community activities
    • Meeting other newcomers and building local connections
    • Support with forms and applications

Local organizations that can help

Our community partners work closely together to make sure newcomers can access the services they need, no matter where they live in the Region. You can contact them by phone, email, or by visiting their websites. Some offer walk-in hours, while others may ask you to book an appointment. If you need interpretation, ask when you call. Many services can be provided in your first language.

These organizations serve all immigrants, refugees and other newcomers:

These organizations serve refugee claimants and government assisted refugees specifically.
