Refugee Task Force

Waterloo Region is one of only 40 resettlement communities for government-assisted refugees in Canada, and is home to many privately sponsored refugees and refugee claimants.

The Immigration Partnership Council convenes a Refugee Task Force, co-chaired by the Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre and the Region of Waterloo, which coordinates community responses during periods of increased arrivals. Partners include settlement agencies, housing providers, schools, public health and health services, volunteers, and community organizations.

Collaborative efforts help families:

  • Access multiple services in one place
  • Receive on-site health and settlement supports
  • Secure housing and rent assistance
  • Enroll children in school quickly

The Task Force ensures coordinated, responsive support so refugee families can rebuild their lives and fully participate in the community.
